As much as we may have wanted at times, unfortunately we cannot change the past. It is what it is. So does that mean we are slaves of our thoughts and destined to suffer every time our mind travels back in time?
Fortunately we can change how we see the events that we would have preferred to erase, and above all change how we feel when something appears in our life that our mind considers similar to that unpleasant moment, triggering the amygdala which in turn makes us anxious.
By revisiting an unpleasant trauma or event while tapping on the meridian endpoints, we send a message to the amygdala to calm down, essentially 'resetting the program' and removing the emotional charge that hurt us.
As Dr. Joe Dispenza says, "A memory without the emotional charge is called wisdom."
I find these words quite apt.
I’m often asked, “but isn’t focusing on the negative just attracting more of the same?”
Well, not really, even if that’s what the law of attraction tells us.
In Meridian Tapping we’re thinking momentarily about the negative in order to release it; so it’s not the same as harping on about something, moaning day in day out without ever changing it. And you know, even if we’re not moaning or complaining, if there’s something that doesn’t sit well with us, or something makes us feel uneasy, the chances are it will be constantly popping up in our minds anyway in some shape or form.
We have our lovely amygdala to thank for that! Remember that it's just doing its job to protect us!
In EFT, yes, we focus on what’s bothering us, but when we tap on the meridian end-points we are sending a message to the amygdala telling it, “calm down, it’s okay.”
As Louise Hay once said, “If you’re going to clean the house, you have to see the dirt…” That’s such a perfect analogy! With EFT, we give what is bothering us a voice, we acknowledge the feeling and then neutralise the emotion.

Today I listened to Dr. Dawson Church talk about how Tapping is literally changing the physiology of our brain. Wow! It was such an inspiring talk!
We know that Tapping works, thanks to over one hundred studies carried out on PTSD, phobias, depression, anxiety, etc., but until now we haven’t really known much or anything about how or why it works. In all honesty, while experiencing first-hand the positive effects EFT can bring about, I’ve never really bothered too much about HOW it works. I’m just very happy that it does!

Now, however, we are beginning to find out a little more. We are able to take a look at what’s going on in the nervous system and in the brain during and after Tapping and the results are pretty amazing. The stress hormone cortisol is reduced, food cravings, pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD - all reduced, whereas happiness and immune system markers increased.
In 1913, Santiago Ramòn y Cajal, considered by many to be the father of neuroscience, reported that nervous pathways in the brain are, “fixed, ended and immutable….everything may die, nothing may be regenerated.”
Luckily, we have come a long way since then and we know now that this is not true.
Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to change and reorganise itself over time by forming new neural connections. The brain can literally change and build new pathways in an instant. This allows it to compensate for injury and in response to external changes. In a sense it rewires itself, activating new pathways.
Stress is exhausting!
Have you ever noticed how exhausted you feel after a stressful day, even though you haven’t really done anything, yet after a long walk in nature you feel less tired? Or how an argument leaves you feeling completely drained, but an evening out dancing is invigorating? Or how when you’re worrying excessively about something, you’re unable to do much else? That’s because you are using up precious energy with your thoughts.
The brain - a hub of energy
Our brain might be a fairly small part of our body, but it takes up about 20% of the energy consumed. So when we are stressed our body’s natural abilities are compromised. Our brain is focused on ‘the problem’ and this can take up a lot of the energy reserves, leaving us exhausted, less able to function properly and possibly less able to heal.
By regulating negative emotions and reducing anxiety and stress with Meridian Tapping, brain activity, energy and physiological resources are freed, allowing the body to put them to better use, balancing the body’s systems and doing its job the way it was meant to. Our body is inherently intelligent; we just have to give it a chance.

Dr. Bruce Lipton, PhD, cellular biologist and author of ‘The Wisdom of Your Cells’ and ‘The Biology of Belief’, states that the science of epigenetics (the study of changes in organisms caused by modification of gene expression rather than of the genetic code itself) has shown that our genes are influenced by our minds and thoughts. This is a rather provocative statement, and since it is said that 5% or less of our thoughts are conscious and 95% are subconscious, we might want to take a little more care of that rather large hidden 95%....
Do you have issues with abundance?

Do you believe any of these statements?
“Money is the root of all evils.”
Sometimes our beliefs participate in creating our reality.
If you follow the laws of attraction, imagine sending out one of the statements above. The Universe would hold up its hands and say, “Hey, no problem, your wish is my command…”
If you consciously believe that the above statements are false, yet deep inside your gut there’s a lurking emotion that resonates with them, maybe you’re holding onto a ‘limiting belief’; a belief about the world or yourself that is not helping you.
As Tapping expert Pamela Bruner, of ‘Tapping into Ultimate Success’ co-authored with Jack Canfield, says,
“If you know the truth logically but you feel differently emotionally, you’re going to procrastinate, you’re going to self-sabotage and you’re probably going to make bad choices, especially in business, because you’re going to make an emotional choice based on a limiting belief rather than make a business choice based on integrity…”
So examine your beliefs, dig deep and get to the heart of them. See where they stem from.
Ask yourself questions like:
Tapping is a fabulous way of getting to the core of these emotional limiting beliefs. And once you discover what you believe in emotionally rather than what you believe logically, you'll have found where you need to insist with tapping.
If you're unable to find any answers straight off, don’t fret, just tap on the general belief to start off. Yes, with tapping it is all about tapping on specific events, but sometimes we just have to start off with something general and non-specific and see what surfaces.
Something almost always does!
